Mr Dewie is a fictitious name based on a character that Ari played in a music video that he and Andrew were involved in many years ago. It became a nickname for Ari in some circles, and they felt that it was a catchy name for an ice cream line.
We start with organic cashews and grind them into a fine powder or “paste”. We then add water and the other specific ingredients that make up each flavor, and we mix all of these ingredients together to make a rich and creamy milk. This milk is then churned in our batch freezer to make our fine ice cream.
As you may notice, our ice cream is very much like the taste and texture of gelato. That is because, like gelato, our saturated fat content is much lower than dairy ice cream, we add very little air, and we use real ingredients, without any additives, preservatives, gums, oils or stabilizers. The results speak for themselves — simple, smooth, creamy, flavorful ice cream!
All of our flavors are gluten-free and vegan except for Rocky Road. We had to use Elyon marshmallows which are not vegan, but are Kosher because they use fish gelatin not beef.
We offer three cone options:
- A waffle cone that is gluten free but not vegan
- a cake cone that is both gluten free and vegan
- and “regular” cake and sugar cones that are neither vegan or gluten free.
We use organic cane juice sugar. After extensive research, and consultation with nutritionists, we came to find that cane juice sugar was the best sweetener for our product. It is organic, less refined than table sugar, and is an integral ingredient for creating delicious, creamy ice cream.
In addition to sweetening ice cream, sugar plays an important role in making it smooth and creamy. Without it, it would be hard and icy. So, if we used a sugar substitute like Stevia, Sorbitol, Xylitol, etc., which don’t have the same chemical properties as sugar, we would have to use additives like gums, and chemicals to get the same smooth and creamy results.
The calories and fat in Mr. Dewie’s are similar to premium ice creams, but our fat is from nuts, not heavy cream. Where dairy ice creams can have anywhere between 10 and 17 grams of saturated fat, and 35 to 105 mgs of cholesterol, Mr. Dewie’s has 1 to 3 grams of saturated fat, and no cholesterol.
Though we did not choose to reapply for organic “certification,” all of our flavors continue to be made with organic ingredients with the exception of the Roasted Cashew. Additionally, we use only all natural and non-GMO ingredients. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
Our cashews are purchased from farms in Sri Lanka and Africa (cashews are not grown domestically in the U.S.). All of our other ingredients, where possible, are purchased locally as well. Some exceptions are chocolate, which is from France, and coffee, from Central and South America.
We hand-make our own fresh nut milk from premium organic cashews.
Our facility is dedicated for only our products, so we do NOT process any peanuts, gluten, soy, or dairy.

To enjoy Mr. Dewie’s at its best, take it out of the freezer, and let it sit out at room temperature for 5-10 minutes or until it spoons easily. When softer, Mr. Dewie’s becomes more creamy and flavorful.
